The Linux Club

Overview

Fossit '24 is a hackathon organized around open-source contributions, workshops, and speaker sessions. The website serves as the event’s digital identity, providing detailed information, schedules, and registration flow.

Approach

I created a structured, developer-friendly UI with a clean, tech-centric aesthetic. The flow was optimized for quick access to session details, speaker bios, and registration. The design language reflects openness and innovation, consistent with the event’s ethos.

Case Study

Role: Web Designer

Overview

FOSSit '24 is the official website for an open-source-focused hackathon organized at VIT Chennai. The event brings together students, developers, and open-source enthusiasts for talks, workshops, and collaborative coding. The website served as the central platform for registrations, schedules, and event information.

Problem

The organizers needed a site that would capture the energy of the open-source community while staying clean, accessible, and information-rich. It also had to handle real-time updates and manage traffic during key moments like registrations and speaker sessions.

Solution

I designed a straightforward yet engaging landing page that covered all the essential sections — event overview, schedules, speaker lineup, workshop details, and registration. The layout made it easy for users to find what they needed quickly while reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the event.

My Approach

I followed a minimal design direction with open-source-inspired visuals and a tech-oriented color palette. Content was prioritized based on attendee needs — what, when, and how to participate. I used visual separators, iconography, and sticky navigation to ensure a smooth experience across devices.

Key Features

  • Event overview and problem statements

  • Speaker and workshop listings

  • Registration flow with confirmation messages

  • Responsive design optimized for mobile

  • Schedule breakdown with filtering by day or track

Outcome

The site gave FOSSit '24 a focused digital identity, improved participant onboarding, and made it easier for attendees to stay informed throughout the event. It supported the community goals while keeping the experience intuitive and welcoming.
